Your New Role
Ideally based in Melbourne, with expressions of interest open to Sydney talent, the Product and Technical Lead – Property and Packages will be the senior technical expert driving product and underwriting excellence. You will shape strategy, deliver innovative solutions and act as the trusted referral point for complex underwriting decisions. This role ensures Guild remains competitive and compliant while enabling frontline teams with clear guidelines, tools and training to make confident customer-focused decisions. Success in this role requires deep technical expertise in Commercial Property general insurance.

 

What you’ll be doing

Leadership

  • Contribute to the development and delivery of strategic business plans and underwriting objectives
  • Collaborate with specialist functions to maximise performance outcomes
  • Act as a role model, upholding company values, culture and standards
Delivery and Coordination
  • Lead and coordinate product and underwriting initiatives to deliver profitable growth
  • Conduct research and analysis on market trends, emerging risks and competitor activity
  • Prepare recommendations, reports and papers for senior leadership and committees
  • Facilitate collaboration workshops to design solutions supporting portfolio objectives
Product and Governance Leadership
  • Support Portfolio Managers with product design, policy wording and documentation updates
  • Maintain and communicate underwriting guidelines, manuals and processes
  • Develop templates and referral processes for frontline teams
  • Drive operational efficiency and customer experience improvements
Senior Underwriting Support
  • Act as a senior referral point for complex and large account underwriting
  • Provide coaching and guidance to frontline underwriters to maintain high standards
Underwriting Enablement
  • Develop underwriting guidelines, learning materials and templates to support teams
  • Continuously improve underwriting rules to reduce referrals and enhance decision-making
  • Assist with technical training programs and quality reviews
  • Ensure compliance with underwriting policies and conduct large loss reviews
Regulatory and Reporting
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and internal policies
  • Complete mandatory training and maintain transparent communication on risks and issues

 

What you’ll bring / skills and experience

  • Deep technical underwriting expertise in Commercial Property and SME Business Packages
  • Proven ability to demonstrate leadership and knowledge of product development and underwriting governance
  • Experience managing complex underwriting referrals and coaching teams
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving and stakeholder engagement skills
  • Ability to design and implement process improvements that enhance efficiency and customer experience
  • Strong understanding of regulatory frameworks and compliance requirements
