  • A newly created leadership role

  • Suitable for a candidate with underwriting, pricing, and portfolio management experience

  • Innovate, challenge, and thrive with us

National Portfolio Manager – Workers Compensation

For almost 60 years Guild Insurance has been providing innovative and progressive professional indemnity, business, and personal lines insurance solutions. As we near our seventh decade, we continue to innovate and challenge the way we do things and as such, there has never been a better time to join us!

At Guild, we empower our leaders to act, have straight conversations, and do away with the “red tape” that bogs down several insurance companies in our industry. We want strong and accountable decision-makers that are collaborative and commercial in their style. This past year has been one of renewal; our new Product and Underwriting operating model continues to be shaped and we have welcomed some excellent new senior talent to be the architects of this and you’ll be part of this group. ANZIIF recently anointed us with the award for best Small General Insurer of the year.

About the role

Reporting to our new Head of Product and Underwriting, you’ll have ownership of the Workers Compensation Portfolio Management Strategy including directing profitable growth areas, our short and long-term portfolio positioning leading areas of profitable growth, our short and long-term positioning of the portfolio, and influencing the workers' compensation operations team.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Portfolio analysis and monitoring of Workers Compensation market performance across all 4 jurisdictions (NSW, WA, ACT and Tas) including large loss reviews.

  • Develop and manage the workers' compensation pricing strategy including engagement with the Head of Analytics, Appointed Actuary, and Head of Workers Compensation to determine book premium levels, including ownership of rate filing and debt recovery processes.

  • Design and maintenance of experience rating/burner calculators and acceptance of referrals for these types of policies.

  • Industry specific risk research and determination of risk appetite in conjunction with the Head of Workers Comp including the continual enhancements to the Workers Compensation underwriting manual.

In addition, and in conjunction with the Product and Underwriting Leadership team of which you will be part of; you will provide strategic and operational leadership across the other Portfolio Management teams (including professional indemnity, liability, and other casualty lines as well as personal and commercial lines property), the Product & Underwriting department and the broader business, leading and delivering strategic Business Planning initiatives as required.

This newly created role will rely as much on your relationship management and influencing skills as it will on your deep workers' compensation skillset, which is ideally rooted in underwriting, pricing discussing modeled outputs, and translating them into business strategy will also be highly regarded. There are likely to be several projects for you to lead and particulate in. Of course, given the industry you have elected, a regulatory and reporting discipline will be second nature to you.

We’d rather spend time talking to you than you reading this advert so if you come with the above and are curious to find out more about the role and Guild Insurance please email jburns@guildgroup.com.au or text/call Jason Burns on  0422211297.
